For the majority of people it seems that we only do what we absolutely must in order to get by. We are content to wake up and do our 8 hours at the office, go home, eat whatever, watch some TV, go to sleep, get up, and do it all over again the next day. While that may be fine to most, to me it sounds depressing!
As the owner of a gym I hear a ton of excuses why people don’t work out. Oh, I would work out, but I have a this injury, or, I wish I had the time to work out, but I don’t, or one of my favorites, I would try CrossFit but it looks so hard…I could never do that! I also love that people have to make excuses to justify why they aren’t doing something. Just be honest, and say it’s because you don’t really feel like it! At least you’re being honest with yourself, and as they say, honesty is the best policy. Here’s a list of common excuses, and why they are bullshit.
There’s just no time
This is probably one of the most frustrating, and overly used excuses I hear. EVERYONE has enough time to work out, it’s that they would prefer to do other things instead. With the amount of TV that people watch, and the amount of time that is spent surfing the web, and doing social media, everyone can find 30 minutes to an hour that they can spend moving. I understand that you really love Big Brother, or whatever lame ass reality TV show that you watch, but it has ZERO impact on your life. I get that we all need time to decompress, but do that after you get your ass active and do something positive for yourself. I guarantee you will feel happier after working out, than after you watch Wheel of Fortune for the thousandth time. Plus think of all of the time you will save by not being dead from being obese. and out of shape!
Not enough money for a gym membership
I love CrossFit, that’s obvious, but I also know that CrossFit is pricey. So not everyone can do CrossFit. But you don’t need to join a CrossFit gym, or any gym at that, in order to get in great shape. There are a ton of bodyweight workouts that you can do with no equipment, anywhere at anytime. Ever heard of burpees?? Pushups, planks, running, jumping, lunges, pull-ups, swimming, air squats, sit-ups, the list goes on and on. You can put a million different combos together, and make a workout that will kick your ass with nothing more than the body you were born with. All though they are a nice to have, a gym isn’t a must.
I don’t know what to do
No one just knows what to do, they figure it out. The ask others, they read books, they research on the web. There is no reason that you can’t go to YouTube and find out how to do just about anything. I learned how to change my breaks watching a video on YouTube. There is a ton of information out there, you just have to look for it.
I have this injury…
Nagging injuries are a part of life. Its pretty rare to find a person that feels 100%, 100% of the time. Even the best athletes in the world accept the fact that they are hurt and figure out ways to play through the pain. Now of course I’m not advocating that you push through a serious injury, but I’m talking about the little bumps, and bruises that you use as an excuse to not workout the next day. If you have an injury, find ways to work around it. Don’t let it be a reason to be an excuse not to work out.
I can’t do it
This is Roy. When Roy first started with us he couldn’t row 250 meter without having to take a break. Now Roy is down 70lbs, he can Row 2500 meters without stopping, he can do deadlifts, he can squat, he can even do a modified sit-up! If anyone had an excuse it was Roy, but Roy, kept coming, and he keeps getting better. When people say that they can’t do it, Roy is the reason they are full of shit. Stop making excuses, they are only holding you back from getting where you want to be.
