I get A LOT of stuff sent to me. One of the coolest things about blogging and having a decent reader base is that I can help companies get exposure to their products. There are often times when the product is simply amazing and there are times when I feel like the product just isn’t for me. So rather than writing a negative review, I just don’t really say anything about it. If I made a product i believed in, I wouldn’t want someone blasting it, so I follow the old adage, If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. Now when I do get a product I think is awesome I cant wait to share it with other people. This is the case with the Mil-Spec MS–1 Speed Rope.
I have been using RPM ropes exclusively for the last 2 years. I think they are fantastic ropes! Honestly when I received the MS–1 I didn’t think it stood a chance. But of course I would try it and give it a fair assessment. The rope looks pretty awesome. It has the feel of the RPM knurling, but the handles are much thinner, and it is a bit heavier. The handles I received are all black and although I received multiple color ropes I went with the pink.
I actually threw the rope in my gym bag and forgot it about it for a few days until we had a 2 minute max effort double under test. Perfect time to give the MS–1 a try. The handles have a good weight to them, and the rope felt just right. I guess it gave me a boost of confidence because the result was 188 Double Unders in a row! I actually had 25 seconds left before I had to stop because my calves and my shoulders seized up. My previous best was 110 in a row so I was pretty excited. The combo of the handle weight, the knurling, the rope, and the bearings seemed perfectly balanced. So what began as a one time try out for the MS–1, turned into a new favorite jump rope. I swore I would never replace my RPM rope, it even says Kettlebeard on the side! But I have to admit that I feel like the MS–1 is a better all around rope. My members seem to think so to as they are always stealing it out of my bag, which is funny considering they all made fun of the pink rope.
I have to admit I was surprised at how much I like the MS–1! Not only have my Double Unders gotten better, I was able to string a few triple unders. If you are in the market for a new rope I would definitely say give them a shot. Their slogan is “It’s the last rope you will ever buy” I think if you get one you will agree.
